Gift certificates/cards/vouchers with Bookly

Bookly does not have a gift card/certificate/voucher feature yet, correct? If so, is there a way you recommend for hacking together a gifting option?

Here is my client’s desired use-case:

  1. Allow customer to purchase an appointment as a gift for someone else
  2. Email the gift recipient a 100% discount code that they can use to book an appointment sometime in the future.
  3. Make the code unique so it can only be used once by one person.

My client already uses the Bookly Coupons add-on, so I was thinking I could do this:

  1. Set up a 100%-off “Gift” code for each appointment type that the gift recipient can use when booking. Configure it to only be used once.
  2. Find an e-commerce digital product/gift card plugin to sell the appointments as products and hardcode the Bookly coupon code into the email sent when purchasing a gift appointment.
  3. Whenever someone purchases a gift appointment, an admin would go to the backend and manually create a new Bookly coupon code for that appointment type and update it in the gift card plugin (apart from a custom Wordpress PHP script to bridge between the plugins that’s the best solution I can think of).

That is far from ideal since it requires manually updating a coupon code after being used, and if multiple customers purchase a gift appointment before an admin has a chance to update the gift code then the system would break.

I appreciate any advice,

Ash

  • Support Team - hi, will you please confirm that Bookly does not currently support gift vouchers yet?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Ash,

Currently, gift vouchers are not supported, so, unfortunately, there's no way to automate the workflow you're describing. If this feature is critical for your business, please vote for similar suggestion on our Feature Request forum: https://ideas.booking-wp-plugin.com/public/ideas/10661

What you can do now: when someone buys a gift appointment, they leave the recipient email address in the notes field (Details step). Admin then creates a unique coupon code for new customer and limit the usage to this particular client (Coupons > New coupon > Limit to customers). Admin sends a direct email to the recipient with further instructions.

  • Thank you! I upvoted that feature request.

For the workaround you’re suggesting, do you recommend using the Tasks add-on? That way the customer purchasing the gift doesn’t have to select an appointment date/time, and also I think it would be less likely to get confused as a normal booking by admins. I’m thinking it would be easier to manage.

  • Hi Ash,

Yes, the Bookly Tasks (Add-on) may be suitable for your needs. Admins can mark tasks as completed ('Done' status) after the customer has scheduled an appointment.

For all pre-sales questions please reach out to us at sales@bookly.info. We do not check questions on this forum regularly.
